The purpose of a residential energy assessment or a
commercial energy audit is to assess your building’s energy performance. Three main areas of analysis are traditionally
part of the assessment: the building envelope, the heating/cooling systems and
appliances, and lighting.
The assessment will lead the energy professional to
opportunities that can improve your building’s energy performance. They will
suggest solutions and help the building owner gain access to utility and tax
incentives that the homeowner may not be aware of. Many building owners are
surprised at some of the simple low-cost solutions that can be easily
implemented. There may also be solutions
for improving your building’s energy performance that require a more
substantial investment.
The end result of a quality energy assessment and follow
through by the owner will be a building whose energy performance has increased.
This usually results in lower utility
costs and relief of stress on the environment and regional energy grids.
